What a mom of a child with Down syndrome thinks about ‘designer babies’

I’ll be honest. I really thought this was going to be so much easier. When my editors at SheKnows and allParenting asked me to cover a debate on genetic engineering of babies, I thought, sure! How hard can it be? I mean, the hashtag associated with the debate was #designerbabies.
Um, yeah. Controversial. Risky. Scary. A solid no vote from this mama. Right? I’d love to hear how you react after reading my SheKnows article, which I worked hard to make balanced. Did I do it right? Where do you land?
SheKnows reports: Should we be able to design our own babies?
After watching the debate and writing the SheKnows article, I was torn. The “answer” I landed on might not be popular with other parents, but y’all know the last time I went with an answer just because it was popular was… right. Never.
You may not like what I write about, and you may not like me. But I ask that you respect my honesty. When it comes to an issue as fraught with emotion as the genetic engineering of babies, honesty is all I’ve got.
